The Medicines and Healthcare Products Agency (MHRA) has issued an MHRA ALERT about Mobile Electric Patient Hoists detailing the potential for electric actuators to fail without warning, causing sudden dropping of the hoist boom and possible serious injury to the patient and/or carer. This affects various mobile electric hoist manufacturers.
The MHRA has advised that all those involved in the supply, maintenance or use of these devices must identify whether the rate of usage (lifts per day) and age indicate that the electric actuator is due for replacement.
